A force field is an area of space around any given object that when it comes in contact with anything it will disintigrate that object to nothing. In Doctor Who this is shown by the Daleks who are built in with a force field in the revived series. The first notification of this new quality is in Dalek (episode). The force field returned years later and was used to help the Dalek's obtain overal control.
